OverviewAs a Communications Intern at Habitat for Humanity of Omaha, you will play a crucial role in amplifying our mission to provide affordable housing solutions and build thriving communities. You will work closely with the Communications Manager to coordinate and execute strategic communication initiatives across various platforms. This internship offers valuable hands-on experience in crafting compelling narratives, engaging with diverse stakeholders, and promoting meaningful social impact.

Key Responsibilities

• Content Creation: Assist in creating content for Habitat Omaha's digital platforms, including website, social media channels, blog, and newsletters. This may include writing articles, producing videos, and capturing photographs to showcase our programs, events, and success stories.
• Events: Collaborate and coordinate with internal stakeholders when planning events. Will attend events to capture social content. This position will shadow the CEO at events on occasion to take photos.
• Social Media Coordination: Help grow Habitat Omaha's presence on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. This involves drafting engaging posts, scheduling content calendars and monitoring interactions.
• Community Engagement: Collaborate with the Communications Department to help coordinate and execute the strategies for engaging with the local community, volunteers, donors, and partner organizations. This may include assisting with outreach events, participating in community forums, and fostering relationships with key stakeholders.
• Marketing Support: Provide support in the coordination and distribution of marketing materials such as brochures, flyers, posters, and promotional merchandise. Ensure consistency in branding and messaging across all communication channels.
• Support the communications team in all aspects of their receptibilities with coordination and administration of various projects.
• Perform other duties as required to ensure a positive public image and to improve the functioning of the organization.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with keen attention to detail and accuracy.
• Proficiency in digital communication and platforms, including social media management tools and content management systems.
• Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities.
• Passionate for storytelling and creating a social impact.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
• Understanding of WordPress.
• Knowledge of nonprofit organizations, affordable housing issues, or community development is a plus.

Duration And Compensation

• This is a part-time, paid internship position with flexible hours, typically ranging from 10 to 20 hours per week.
• The internship duration can vary depending on academic schedules and organizational needs, with opportunities for extension or transition into a full-time role based on performance and availability.
